Modular Cabinets

Summary
(please click on any of the pictures for a larger one - use the BACK button to come back)

I had a bit of a struggle, because I wanted to use all of the interior and otherwise inaccesible spaces for "machinery", but had no way to access it after the cabinetry would have gone in. I decided to build the cabinetry in a modular fashion, inserted into gaping holes through which, with the cabinets removed, I could get to the systems inside.

This is the cabinet under the galley.

Still a lot of unfinished trim......

Inside it looks like a normal cabinet....

But wait!... its coming out!

Now I can get to the "mess" inside there!

This is the air conditioner stuff.

The bottom of the cabinet module has cleats that lock it onto the bottom edge of the opening.

Then as the top edge goes in flush, you just latch it in to the inside of the bulkhead!

This is similar cabinet (modular, with the cleats and latch mechanism) behind the helm station.

This one has shelving on one side......

And has access to the helm machinery space (machinery to be added later) on the other side!

Here is a later picture with components and systems in place

Lessons Learned

You will *NEVER* get something to fit right just by measuring,
no matter how many numbers, formulas, or decimal places you use.
