As anyone with a furler drum on a trailer sailor knows, it is a pain when raising and lowering the mast. Let's see....a big heavy piece of metal just slinging all over the place, banging around on the deck. I asked my wife to go to work...........again.
This is the furler sock. It is made from two cylindrical "bags" of sunbrella, an inner and an outer. Before sewing the inner one inside of the outer one, we slipped some thin closed cell foam in between and on the bottom.
Finished it off with a drawstring type closer!

It worked WONDERFULLY!!
It is nice not having to worry about that furler drum while doing the other 657 things needed when raising the mast.
The only problem I had was after a rain, it would fill with water. Since it was made from Sunbrella, it didn't drain out!!
I put a grommet in the bottom part of the seam to let the water out. |
Lessons Learned
Sunbrella can keep water on the outside............AND ON THE INSIDE!!!
