Galley

This is the construction and ideas page for the galley portion of the boat.

This was the starting point. This page will be for the "outside" of the galley. Not ready to start that just yet. Go here to see what is going on underneath the galley first.

Here is the first of the bulkheads to go into the galley area. The two vents are for the air conditioner intake. The just lift-up to remove and allow access to the systems underneath.

Here is the finished galley. I made the two mini sinks using some stainless steel serving containers made for food buffets.

I attempted to "dimple" them (worked moderately well) and the drilled them out for a drain.

The range on the top of the counter is 110VAC only. For cooking without shore power I will use a butane stove stored in here.

There is a lip and side walls to keep things stable.

I still have to make some cleats or foot holes or something to keep it stable when in use..

The name of the game when cramming everything into small spaces on a boat like this is ACCESS.

Case in point: This is a hatch on the top of the galley counter.

I fit a plastic basket on a lip underneath around the edge to hold storage items.

The basket is removed and there is easy access to "stuff" mounted underneath!

Here is another storage bin adjacent to the galley countertop.

It can also be lifted out for access to systems underneath.

Lessons Learned

It is very hard to plan ahead of time how you will use an entire boat's space. Instead, plan for flexibility and easy access.
