Motor Well Locker Cover

Summary

Seaweed has an inboard diesel. The motor well wasn't needed for an outboard motor. I had already closed up the bottom of the well here, and wanted a proper lid that was like a locker, instead of the plywood board shown in the "before" pictures.

I fabricated the lid using the same process as the anchor locker lid.

Here, I am stapling on the heavy paper forms that were used to shape the inside lip. The "toilet seat" is the anchor locker lid.

The forward edge of the locker lid needed a large overhang to protect from a lot of water spray (it is still an open locker).

I had planned on the side lips resting on some sort of rails along the side walls of the locker, so I built the lipped edges up pretty thick.

I wanted to add a nice touch to the top, so, before rolling on the non-skid, I taped off a seaweed "clump" right in the middle of it.

As I mentioned on the non-skid page, make sure you pull the tape off while the epoxy is still WET, or you will be getting the sander back out.

Like the anchor locker, I taped off the hinge strap locations also. Its a simple thing to do, and really makes for a nice finished look.

Here is the finished product.

It came out quite a bit better than I thought it would.

Lessons Learned

If you have enough fiberglass that can be thrown away at your disposal, you can build anything.
